Ready-made bottled sauces are usually expensive and full of weird additives. This homemade BBQ sauce recipe is so simple that you can whip up a batch whenever you want some. It keeps in the fridge for a couple of weeks, although mine never usually lasts that long before it gets eaten. I use this DIY BBQ sauce in my vegan pulled pork and it works a treat.

  • Put all the ingredients in a sauce pan over low heat and mix well until smooth.
  • Cook the sauce down to the desired consistency, stirring frequently to prevent burning. If using as a standalone dipping sauce, cook longer for a thicker sauce. If using as a marinade or with vegan pulled pork, cook for a shorter time for a runnier sauce. I usually do about ten minutes.
  • If storing the sauce, remember to cool first before putting in the fridge, and always use an airtight container.

Notes

If you don't really dig the tang, reduce to amount of balsamic vinegar or change to a sweeter malt vinegar.
